The Move Wild Story

Move Wild Academy is the evolution of The Merisoiu Technique Institute of Health & Human Movement and Urban Women Fitness. They were all founded by Alexandra Merisoiu (picture on the right). Urban Women Fitness started at the beginning of 2014, MTI one year later and Move Wild Academy was born in 2018 and is here to stay.
When Alexandra began her journey as a gym Personal Trainer it didn’t take long to realise that PT was not the way to go, at least not the general understanding of PT. Coming from a solid Martial Arts background, going back to 1995 and today competing for England, Alexandra had a different style of coaching and training in mind. From the beginning the sets, reps and “beasting” style did not fit her idea of training. You see, it’s not about fitness, it’s about training and practice. Fitness comes as a result of dedication to your art. In this case the Move Wild Way.
Alexandra came up with The Merisoiu Technique because her clients wanted to get fit, strong and powerful. However they also needed to understand how their bodies function, how to move soft, fluid as well as strong and confident, and how to prevent injury which can be prevented instead of treated later on. And it was essential not to sacrifice the later for the former. It was imperative for them to understand the difference between tension and relaxation, intentional movement, posture and balance and counterbalance.
It became clear that our clients needed to have access to a complete system which would offer them the foundations they needed to live a healthy, strong and fit life for the rest of their lives. Once we understand the basics of movement, posture, breathing, nutrition and mindful control then we actually become in control of our own life, for the rest of our life.
As with everything, Urban Women Fitness evolved into The Merisoiu Technique Institute which later evolved into Move Wild Academy. Our phylosophy is the same and our mission is much more clear now:
To challenge the current fitness paradigm of reps and sets, speed and sweat through focuses and mindful primal movement.
Much too often we focus on how many times we repeat an exercise, rather than performing one repetition to the best of our abilities. We throw in 50 squats and 20 pressups, a dash of situps and sprinkle a few poorly performed lunges, while thinking what we are having for dinner or focused on the news, all the time thinking that the more we sweat the more we worked regardless of how we actually do whatever we chose to do. You don’t need to exercise to sweat, just turn on the heat in your house and it does the job.
Reps and sets, speed and sweat have their time and place. That is after the correct technique and concepts such as body alingment, weight distribution and stability muscles are introduced, practiced and understood. Move Wild Academy teaching methods stem from Martial Arts, particularly Shotokan Karate, bust other disciplines as well, such as dancing, climbing, POSE Method of Running and MovNat.
The system builds strength, stamina, mobility and flexibility, improves posture and balance and brings out the best in our clients and coaches. At Move Wild Academy we chase perfection and, while we know perfection cannot be reached, our aim is to catch excellence.
Move Wild Academy strives to educate their clients and coaches on the fundamentals of human movement and body mechanics. Move Wild Academy brings precision and sharpness into your training routine, making it more effective and enabling you to reach your goals with less risk of injury and more strength, power and confidence in your abilities.
